PRESS RELEASE ANNOUNCING NYC RUN OFF BROADWAY
Houston performing artist, Melissa Waddy Thibodeaux, will be opening OFF
BROADWAY at the Malcolm X and Dr. Betty Shabazz Memorial and Educational
Center in Harlem, New York City opening Thursday, March 6, 2008 and running
through Sunday, March 9, 2008, providing 3 pm matinees on both Saturday
and Sunday and 7 pm shows. Schools will bus in students, parents and
community members to witness this tour show which teaches some not-so-
well known facts about the Underground Railroad and the “Woman They
Called Moses”, Mrs. Harriet Ross Tubman-Davis.
Ms. Nikki Johnson of Community Works, Inc. has booked this Houston
performer to present her touring one-woman show entitled, “The Resurrection
of General Harriet Tubman for Literacy”, on Monday, March 10, 2008, at the
same location, in celebration of National Harriet Tubman Day throughout the
country.
The Mayor’s Office will present a proclamation to the Malcolm X and Dr. Betty
Shabazz Memorial and Educational Center honoring this day in 2008 and
invites the public. A visit is also planned with school children to the Harriet
Tubman statute located in New York City with the family members and the
